My Aged Care Support Program

Free Local Support from a Trained Peer Champion on Fleurieu Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula and Murray Mallee

Are you aged 65 or over? Are you, a friend or relative struggling to navigate the My Aged Care Website or phone service?

If the answer to either of these is yes, this free support service, funded by Country SA Primary Health Network (PHN) and facilitated by COTA SA, could be for you. Come Along to a Free community Information Session

In November 2017, three FREE My Aged Care Community Support Program Community Information Sessions were delivered in Murray Bridge, Victor Harbor and Kadina. These were really well received by the community who heard about the Commonwealth Home Support Program, Home Care Packages and much more. Everyone was also able to browse and chat to numerous Organisations providing My Aged Care in home services in their local area.

Such was the success of these sessions, additional sessions have been planned.

About the program

From July 2017 the program has been trialing the delivery of practical one-one one support and information in understanding the My Aged Care Systems for people 65 years and older. This has focussed on the three regional areas of Murray Bridge, Victor Harbor and Kadina where trained My Aged Care Peer Champions are available to provide phone or face to face support. From March 2018 the project extends to the Mid North of SA, an additional Peer Champion will be available for this area and the delivery of two further Community Information sessions in Port Pirie and Jamestown are being arranged.

Why this program was developed

While there has been an increase in the understanding of the aged care system since the reforms in 2015, there is still an ongoing and significant need for support and assistance with how the aged care system operates, including the differing levels of care and support available locally. The project aims to deliver the support needed through trained Aged Care Peer Champions. The Peer Champions will assist older people still living independently to access the information they need and help them navigate the My Aged Care system.
