Mature Age Workers - Think Work Life Stage, Not Age

Media release - Thursday June 18

A free workshop for local employers will be held in Port Augusta on Thursday June 25, 2015 by the Council Of The Ageing SA (COTA SA), featuring internationally renowned workforce planning expert Julie Sloan.

The workshop will demonstrate to employers and HR managers the value of workforce planning for a mature workforce.

COTA SA chief executive Jane Mussared said the workshop was part of the organisation's Employment for the Ages project, funded by the State Government.

"We understand the importance of planning for a diverse workforce in times of economic change, and we are delighted to have Julie Sloan's input," she said.

Ms Sloan said it was critical for employers to understand their current workforce and future needs so they could position themselves for the challenges ahead in regional SA.

"Mature age workers are an important part of the picture," she said.

Ms Sloan said the workshop would provide participants with advice on producing a workforce profile for their business and for the region.

"We will talk about identifying the capabilities they need to deliver their services and products and the level of risk in finding these capabilities in the region," she said.

"We will also cover identifying risk management strategies to support the mature age workforce and local businesses so they can compete in the labour market."

The workshop will be held on Thursday June 25 from 9.30am to 2.30pm at the Regional Development Australia Training Room, 2a Stirling Road, Port Augusta.
