New Blog Post - It's an Online World - Stay Safe
How engaged are you with today's digital world?
As older Australians, it is fair to say that you have seen times change immensely and rapidly, especially in the last decade or two. Sixty years ago, the only screens that most Australians could access were found in a cinema but now they are everywhere - TVs, phones, computers, laptops, even watches have screens! Many of you would have been in your 40s or older before consumer access to dial-up internet became the ‘norm' in most homes around the mid-1990s, so some of you might struggle with the uptake of the digital world around you - while others have embraced it with open arms.
Either way, the increasingly digital world brings not only opportunities but also some risks - this week's blog post has a few simple tips for helping you to stay safe online.

Join us in July to Talk About the NBN
When: Tuesday 4th July, 2017
Time: 10am - 12noon
Where: COTA SA, 16 Hutt Street, Adelaide SA 5000
If it hasn't already arrived, within the next few years the NBN is coming your way, but what is it, what do you have to do - and what are some of the issues you should be aware of?
We did a blog post on this in April as it's clearly a topic people are interested in - and continue to be interested in so the next Reframing Ageing seminar will introduce the NBN, what it is, how it works and some of the things to bear in mind when the time comes.

We need your help – acdAssist
We've had a good response so far but we're still looking for a few more participants - please get in touch if you'd like to be involved.
acdAssist is a new online tool currently under development which we think will make it easier for people to prepare a detailed and well thought out Advanced Care Directive (ACD).
The intention is that acdAssist will help breakdown the barriers that may prevent people from preparing a valid, legal ACD. It will lead you through the process of making decisions, and discussing otherwise difficult issues with your loved ones about your medical care, where and how you live and what matters most to you.
To ensure that acdAssist meets the needs of the people that will be using it, we need the assistance of 20 volunteers to participate in a test project. The test will be conducted over 2 stages and participants in both stages will receive a legally valid ACD tailored to their needs for no charge.
For more information and to register your interest go to https://www.cotasa.org.au/requests/acdAssist.aspx

Be Aware on the Road - New Give Way Rules Apply
This week we received advice from the Department of Transport Planning and Infrastructure that new give way rules apply as of the 15th of April this year, whether you're a driver or a pedestrian, this is useful information to share:
Vehicles will now be required to give way to pedestrians entering - not just on - slip lanes and pedestrian, children's and marked foot crossings. Prior to this change, vehicles only had to give way to pedestrians on or entering a children's crossing but not when entering other types of crossings. In addition, cyclists can now enter crossings without dismounting (they must keep to the left if practical and give way to any pedestrians on the crossing).
