New Blog Post - Energy Security and Reliability
Part 1 - The energy market
On the 23rd of May we held our latest Reframing Ageing Seminar looking at the issue of Energy Security and Reliability, our guest speakers on the day began by giving us an overview of our current energy market by looking at all the different organisations/factors involved in our bill. This was followed by reviewing the issues around energy security and reliability including the factors behind the September 2017 statewide blackout and the measures being taken to protect our energy in the future.
In this blog post we aim to give a broad overview of the first part of the morning, including links for further information.

New Media Release
Having a say and addressing serious issues impacting older people on COTA SA's budget wish list
This week's State Budget should prioritise opportunities for 590,000-plus older South Australians to be influential in positioning SA as a showcase of modern ageing, says peak body COTA SA.
COTA SA CEO Jane Mussared says along with building capacity for older people to contribute directly to design, services and technology including through an ‘ageing well' focused living labs movement, the budget should also contain a strong focus on addressing the serious and recurring barriers growing numbers of older people experience, including elder abuse, workplace discrimination and rising living costs.

Reinstatement of the Pensioner Concession Card
The Federal Budget this year contained a measure to return the Pensioner Concession Card to those who lost their part pension in January this year as a result of changes to the pension asset test.
The national and State and Territory COTAs have recently been receiving calls from members and the general public enquiring about the process for the card return - and, in particular, if they need to apply to Centrelink. COTA Australia has consulted the DSS about this and can confirm that eligible people will automatically receive their replacement card in the post and do not need to apply or register. For those eligible, the cards will begin to be sent out from October 9th.

Have Your Say: An early-morning bus is just one step away. Vote now!
Do you live on the South Coast and use the bus service? Now's your chance to have your say on improving the timetable - including the option of getting to Adelaide before 9am on weekdays and leaving after 5pm.
The State Government and Rebekha Sharkie MP are seeking community feedback on proposed changes to the LinkSA Goolwa to Adelaide bus route. Under the new proposal, South Coast residents would be able to more easily take a bus to the city for work, study and medical appointments.
You have the choice to either vote for the changes or to keep the service the same. For more information on what the changes would be and to cast your vote, go to: http://www.rebekhasharkie.com.au/bus?utm_campaign=busconsultation&utm_medium=email&utm_source=rebekhasharkie
