World Suicide Prevention Day - Take a Minute, Change a Life
World Suicide Prevention Day was this past Sunday the 10th of September, the theme for this year being 'Take a Minute, Change a Life'. It could take just a minute to check in with friends, family, or yourself - and that minute can make all the difference.
Did you know that in Australia, according to recent figures, the suicide rate in men aged 85+ years was a staggering 39.3 per 100,000 people compared with 11.8 deaths per 100,000 in males aged 15-19 years (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2015). Neither of these are good figures but at a time when more people are living longer, it is very concerning when a high percentage of older people are at risk of suicide.

We're pleased to be hosting an event looking more at this issue in more depth on the 22nd of November with a range of speakers - to learn more and to register go to https://www.cotasa.org.au/events/2017/wspd-event.aspx

We posted an article on this last year but, with the recent campaign now seems like a good time to repost. For more information go to https://www.cotasa.org.au/news/NewsList/2016/free-shingles-vaccination.aspx
