New Blog Post - 3 Ways to Maintain an Active Lifestyle
We all want to maintain an active lifestyle as we get older. Part of an active lifestyle means being able to get out there to experience one of nature's treasures, spring time in the gardens.
In this week's blog post, COTA SA organisational member Homecare Equipment Services shares 3 important factors that can help us maintain an active lifestyle as we grow older. That's in addition to eating well and looking after ourselves.

Help to Design: New Health and Wellness Precinct
ACH Group, a not for profit organisation delivering aged care services to South Australians, is developing a new health and wellness precinct next to the Lyell McEwin Hospital in northern Adelaide. The new precinct will provide opportunities to keep older people healthy, active and connected as they age.
We are looking for older people, or younger people with a disability, who live in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide, who would like to be involved in shaping the precinct, and the programs and services that are offered.

Quality and Safety in Aged Care
COTA Australia (COTA A) has been a leading proponent of the need for consumers to have easily understood information about the quality of aged care services prior to selecting their aged care provider.
On 1 January 2016, the National Aged Care Quality Indicator Program (QI Program) was launched nationally providing residential aged care service providers an opportunity to voluntarily become part of the program. The three voluntary indicators that currently exist to help consumers choose an aged care provider focus on clinical areas of pressure injuries, use of physical restraint and unplanned weight loss.
This project seeks to engage current program users, consumers, care recipients and representatives to understand what is important and inform the further development of quality indicators that will support consumers with making decisions about their aged care.
We are currently looking for people who are receiving aged care services, or who are about to commence using aged care services, and carers to be involved in this project. We will be holding a series of workshops and focus groups during November and December. If you are interested in being involved, please contact us at The Plug-in at email@example.com or 08 8224 5582.

When: Tuesday the 14th and Tuesday the 21st of November
Where: Greenacres Library, 2 Fosters Road, Greenacres
We are developing, and want to test a two session program to give people the time and the tools to reflect and work out where they are on their ‘retirement' journey and transition to what's next for them. This will provide an opportunity to then identify together what knowledge, skills and learning they might need to get there, and where to find it.

Congratulations to 2018 SA Senior Australian of the Year – Barbara Spriggs
Barbara lifted the lid on the abuse of residents at Adelaide's Oakden Aged Care home and continues to be a passionate campaigner for treatment of aged care patients. She blew the whistle on a story of systematic abuse and neglect after uncovering her own husband Bob's experience at the facility.
