A Field Guide to ZestFest 2017

ZestFest – A Festival for Modern Ageing will take place throughout South Australia from October 7 – 28. ZestFest is based on three key themes – Celebrate, Connect and Challenge and offers something for everyone and is definitely not to be missed. So, to ensure you get your fill we have prepared this little Field Guide to help you maximise your Fest this Zestober.

History

2017 marks 50 years since communities in South Australia began recognising and celebrating Seniors Week, more recently known as the Every Generation Festival and this year has established a new look and new brand ‘ZestFest'.

How to Celebrate, Connect and Challenge...

With well over 200 events there's so much choice, the first decision is to ensure you don't miss out on ZestFest - it's going to be great!

From thought provoking forums to high art and couture, story-telling, theatre, come and try session or just plain fun there's really something for everyone....... including loads of FREE events!

Get ready to Celebrate

A special ZestFest event celebrating the Paolo Sebastian: X exhibition at the Art Gallery of SA on Tuesday 24 October. Exclusively for Zest Fest, audiences are invited to hear from Paul Vasileff and Rebecca Evans, Curator of European and Australian Decorative Arts over a glass sparkling wine and afternoon tea followed by a guided tour of Paolo Sebastian: X exhibition. A collaboration between the Adelaide Fashion Festival and the Art Gallery of South Australia, fashion installations will be interspersed throughout the Melrose Wing celebrating the glamour and luxury of couture gowns by designer and 2017 Young Australian of the Year Paul Vasileff. Cost $35 - bookings via the ZestFest SA website.

60+ Moments is a digital photography project creating new images and expectations of our older years, boldly reframing the way we age. It will challenge perceptions of older people, their creative voice and capacity to contribute and provide an opportunity for individuals to express what's personally important to them in a changing world.

Have you uploaded your selfie yet? You have until COB Friday to do so! ZestFest has asked older people across South Australia ‘What gives your life zest?' And asked them to respond with a selfie - along with the answer to the question of course! For further info check out zestfestsa.org.au

Projection events will held after dark in outdoor public spaces on significant buildings, specific locations will be listed @ zestfestsa.org.au from Saturday 7 October.

Plan ahead to Connect

Older by Tenx9, A FREE event held on Thursday 19 October 7.30pm at the Jade, Flinders Street Adelaide. Tenx9 is a storytelling night where 9 people have up to 10 minutes each to tell a real story from their lives. Each night has a theme - October's is ‘Older' especially for ZestFest..Have you got a story to tell? It can be anything on the theme, as lateral as you like, as long as it is a real story. And if you'd rather just come along and listen that is also warmly encouraged. Check out ZestFest website to find out more! Otherwise just pop along - you're in for a treat!

A Life of Learning: Research at the South Australian Museum. The South Australian Museum poses Does the quest for knowledge stop at retirement? Hear a panel talk with Hon. Research Associates G Medlin, Dr W Zeidler, Dr P Shaughnessy and Emeritus Prof. L Warner at The Armoury, SA Museum, North Terrace, Adelaide on Tuesday 10 October at 2.00 pm -A FREE event but bookings recommended, contact Margaret Lloyd on 82077575

Be prepared to Challenge

You Reckon That's Old? will be held on Sunday October 8 from 4.30pm - 6.30pm in the Dome in Victoria Square, the discussion will focus on the question ‘Where are we headed with old?' Among the panellists is ACT Senior Australian of the Year 2016 Professor Greg Tegart AM FTSE who lectures extensively in Australia and Europe on the topic of smart technology for healthy longevity; world-renowned Business Futurist and innovation specialist Morris Miselowski; writer and newspaper columnist Dr Susan Mitchell; priest and former politician The Rev'd Dr Lynn Arnold AO; Equal Opportunity Commissioner Dr Niki Vincent; Professor Fran Baum AO Foundation Director of the Southgate Institute for Health, Society and Equity; with MC Peter Goers. The Zest-full-ness workshop, is a half day workshop held on Monday 23 from 10am - 1.15pm at the Grainger Studio, 91 Hindley Street, Adelaide. Hosted by Amanda Blair, you'll hear from a range of speakers covering topics such as travel, volunteering, mindfulness, sexuality, spirituality, wellbeing, meditation .... plus many more! Entry is by gold coin donation - COTA members FREE.
