Every Generation Presents SALA at COTA SA

4/8/2015 - Jane Intini, Every Generation Festival Coordinator

The Every Generation Festival, formerly known as Seniors Week, is the state's premier celebration of older people and is now in its 48th year. All major regional centres participate, providing close to 40% of official activities.

Even though the Festival runs from 1st - 16th October, we felt we should jump on the SALA bandwagon - a first for COTA SA - and highlight the amazing & sometimes hidden talents of our older artists.

The COTA SA SALA Exhibition features 2 such ‘hidden' talents.

Dr Jeff TrahairDr Jeff Trahair has recently retired from full-time lecturing in anatomy at the University of Adelaide to pursue his passion for men's fashion. His range of ‘opera night couture' takes the humble men's suit coat & turns it into a wearable work of art. This is Jeff's second visit to SALA. His 2013 exhibition at Ayer's House was standing room only from day one and certainly had everyone talking. You can see Jeff's work on his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/OperaNightCouture or for a more extensive look at his collection at head to http://www.operanightcouture.com.au/

Dorina FanningDorina Fanning is a graphic artist by trade but saves her truly inspirational work for her paper craft. Combining Japanese origami, her indigenous heritage and her love of colour Dorina creates breathtaking works of art entirely fashioned from paper. Her wall hangings, gift boxes and book covers are always in demand. To see more about Dorina, please visit http://www.dorinafanning.com/

The 2015 COTA SA Sala Exhibition opens on Thursday 13th August & runs weekdays from 10am - 4.00pm until Friday 29th August. Jeff & Dorina's works will be on display in the Foyer of COTA SA at 16 Hutt Street, City. The exhibition is free admission - you are welcome to wander in at any time and have a look. All of Jeff & Dorina's work is for sale with all proceeds benefiting the artists.

Meet the artists - Wed 19th August, 11.00am - 2.00pm
Both our makers love a chat, so don't be shy, come and meet them and discover the inspirations that drive them to produce these fantastic works.

Can I buy the artworks?
Too right! With 100% of the proceeds going to the makers, it's your opportunity to purchase some truly unique pieces.

We look forward to seeing you during SALA in August!

PS: Grab a copy of this week's Sunday Mail (9th August) where you'll find an article on our exhibition and an interview with Dr Jeff Trahair.
